Ben Horne recently retired (May 2023) from the great game following a stand-out career for the Auckland Aces.
The keeper/bat as an established member within the Aces set-up, playing over 150 across the three formats during his illustrious 8 year career (2016-23).
In his final season with the Aces (2022/23), he acted as vice-captain having previously skippered the Plunket Shield (first-class) team. He called time on his career having scored 3,915 runs with 4 centuries, including his career-best 162 against Otago.
The former Ace comes from a rich cricketing background, with both his father (Philip) and Uncle (Matt) representing New Zealand between 1987 and 2003.
Horne initially shot to prominence back in 2012 when representing New Zealand at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Australia. Playing alongside the likes of current Blackcaps’ Will Young, and Ish Sodhi, New Zealand made the semi-finals before losing to eventual champions, India.
Following his return to New Zealand, Horne transitioned from left-arm spin to wicket-keeping and ultimately, his success at Premier club level (for Parnell CC) and Auckland A, culminated with his Aces debut during the 2016/17 season.
Horne has enjoyed a glittering career full of awards and accolades. Alongside his 4 hundreds, including his quite remarkable career-best 162 against Otago, he has notched up records for the most dismissals in a first-class innings, and match. With the Aces, he was been a Plunket Shield winner, a 3-time Ford Trophy winner, and boasts the highest 9th wicket partnership record for Auckland (204).
During the 2021/22 season, he also bagged the most dismissals in the Plunket Shield, whilst scoring 300 runs at 33.33 (following up season tallies of 273 runs at 45.50, and 325 runs at 36.11 during the 2019/20, and 2020/21 seasons, respectively).
After announcing his retirement in May 2023, he played a season's league cricket in England (Wolverhampton in the Birmingham League) before moving back to New Zealand to continue a career outside the game. That said, he would certainly be open to any Franchise and/or US T10/20 opportunities that come his way moving forward.
