Ifield is delighted to announce the re-signing of Sri Lankan all-rounder Raminda Wijesooriya for their 2023 Sussex Cricket League season.
Wijesooriya is an exciting batting talent playing for the star-studded Burgher Recreation Club in Sri Lanka.
Playing in the top tier (A) of domestic cricket, alongside national players Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Tharindu Kaushal, “Wije” has impressed, particularly in red-ball cricket. To date, in 21 first-class matches, he has scored 941 runs at 28.51 with 3 hundreds.
Wije has spent four seasons in domestic cricket, making his debut as a teenager for BRC. After a couple of matches in 2017/18, he excelled the following summer, hitting 2 of his 3 centuries amongst 465 runs at 38.75. Wije then backed up with another strong 2019/20 campaign, finishing as BRC’s third-leading run-scorer (behind Rajapaksha and fellow CricX client Shanuka Dulaj) with 442 runs at 24.55.
Wije is a player that comes highly recommended by his provincial coach, Jeevan de Silva, who placed him with English club, Old Elizabethans in 2019. Playing in the Worcestershire League (Premier Division) he scored 495 runs at 27.50 with 4 half-centuries.
Having enjoyed the experience, Wije returned in 2022, this time to play in the Sussex League for Ifield. He was a stand-out professional hitting 807 runs at 50.44 alongside 25 wickets at 24.04 for good measure.
Courtesy of his success, the Club was quick to re-sign the Sri Lankan star for a second season in 2023.
