CricX are excited to announce Bonbeach Cricket Club’s signing of George Darwood for their 2023/24 Cricket Southern Bayside campaign.

George Darwood is an impressive seam bowling all-rounder who plays at Newcastle Cricket Club in the famous North East Premier League and is part of Durham’s Cricket Academy.

Darwood is a front line right arm quick bowler and fluent left handed middle order batsman. The all-rounder also plays a role for Northumberland CCC across all three formats. The youngster joined Durham’s Academy in September 2022 after training with them throughout the 2021/22 winter and playing most of their games in the summer. Last season, the right arm seamer and left handed batsman averaged 23.92 with the ball and just above 20 with the bat for all teams he played in.

Darwood scored his maiden NEPL half century and made his career best in doing so (81*) against Burnopfeild CC. He also took 5-24 for Northumberland u18s and 3-22 (4) for Northumberland Men’s CCC in a t20 group game against Shropshire, his best minor county figures to date. The young opening bowler also took 3-25 (14) for Durham Academy in a 3-day match at Leicestershire whilst scoring an important 30 to help them get over the line in the last day.

George was rewarded with his hard work and strong end to the season with a Durham 2nd XI debut which he couldn’t play in due to a broken finger. However, the 2022/23 winter has seen him train a dozen times with the Durham 1st XI as he begins his path to being a professional cricketer.
