A genuine all-rounder, Liyanage is a strong left-handed top-order bat who doubles as a front-line off-spinner. A schoolboy prodigy, Liyanage's cricketing journey started at the Sanath Jayasooriya Cricket Foundation in 2010, before excelling at President's College Kotte, and Thurston College Colombo, respectively.
During his final two College seasons, Liyanage dominated the Under-19 Division One Inter School Tournament with tallies of 711 runs and 18 wickets (2018/19), and 561 runs and 50 wickets (2019/20).
Roll on September 2022 and Liyanage would make his first-class debut for Ragama, having already featured in white ball cricket earlier in the year. It's fair to say, Liyanage impressed striking a quite sensational 100-ball 106 on debut against Police Sports Club.
Liyanage has now played almost 20 matches across the three domestic formats and looks set for a very bright future. Sri Lanka Cricket have already recognised his ability with selection for the Sri Lankan Emerging Team tour of Japan (July 2023).
In a view towards his developments, the Sri Lankan youngster played UK club cricket in 2024, where he impressed. Playing for Swindon in the strong West of England Premier League, he was a stand-out hitting 1,084 runs at 51.62. He also weighed in with 22 wickets at 30.55 for good measure.
Seeking pastures new, the talented Sri Lankan batting all-rounder is eager to return to Northern shores for a second stint in 2025.
