Dilshan Kanchana is a talented batting all-rounder (seam) who has enjoyed plenty of success, both home, and abroad, over the past decade.

A schoolboy prodigy, the all-rounder represented Sri Lanka U19s, playing a solitary ODI against Bangladesh in April 2013. The following year (Aug 2014), he would hit the headlines by striking a remarkable triple century (319) before taking 9 wickets, in a Sri Lankan U19 (D111) match. His innings, which contained 44 fours, and 9 sixes, came from only 306 deliveries, guided his school, Devapathiraja College, to an innings and 259 run victory over President’s College.

In January 2015, he would make his first-class debut for Nondescripts Cricket Club, but unfortunately only featured in 2 domestic matches. Kanchana would return two seasons later (2017/18), this time for Galle Cricket Club, where he would play 5 matches.

Seeking pastures new, Kanchana headed down under and enjoyed stints in Australia either side of COVID, playing for VSDCA (Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association) club’s Taylors Lakes (2018/19), and Melton (2019/20, 2022/23).

He returned to the Sri Lankan domestic fold in 2021/22 for Galle and he excelled, particularly with the ball in the One-Day Competition (9 wickets at 17.66), before a successful first-class campaign with the bat in 2022/23 (352 runs at 27.07). Unfortunately, Kanchana has not featured in Sri Lankan domestic cricket since his final first-class game for Galle in July 2023.

Nevertheless, Kanchana ventured to Northern shores in 2024 and enjoyed a successful stint for Old Northamptonians in the Northants Cricket League. Courtesy of his 782 runs at 43.44 (2 x 100s), and 15 wickets at 41, the Northants club were swift to re-sign their Sri Lankan star for a second stint in 2025.
