Old Wulfrunians are pleased to confirm the re-signing of Sri Lankan all-rounder, Adeesha Thilanchana, for their 2024 South Staffs League campaign.

Thilanchana is an exciting prospect playing for the star-studded Bloomfield Cricket And Athletic Club in Sri Lanka.

An explosive batter and skilful left-arm seamer, Thilanchana has played almost 100 matches across the three formats, but it’s in T20 cricket he’s excelled.

Prior to joining Bloomfield last summer (2023/24), he was a stand-out for Moors with whom he joined in 2017/18, following stints with Sri Lanka Army Sports Club (2014-16), and Sinhalese Sports Club (2016/17). During this period, he bagged 31 wickets at 14.19 in Sri Lanka’s T20 Tournaments (8 wickets at 9.75 in 2017/18, 15 wickets at 14.26 in 2018/19, 3 wickets at 23.66 in 2019/20, and 5 wickets at 15.40 in 2020/21). During the 2018/19 campaign, he finished as the tournament’s third-leading wicket-taker.

Showing his all-round ability, Thilanchana has also opened the batting for Moors where he has produced several notable innings, striking at well over 100. Whilst he has yet to replicate his bowling success in the longer formats, he has shown glimpses of his potential, especially with the bat, hitting half-centuries in both first-class and List A cricket in recent years.

The talented all-rounder is a potential national T20 player and, eager to showcase his skills abroad, he signed with Boston for their Lincolnshire County Board Premier League campaign in 2019. In all cricket, the Sri Lankan struck 1,031 runs at 42.96 and took 27 wickets at 38.11.

After his productive maiden stint, Thilanchana has since dominated in two seasons for Old Wulfrunians Tettenhall in the South Staffordshire Clubs County League (2021-22). Across all cricket for the club, the all-rounder scored 2,198 runs at 59.41 alongside 59 wickets at 25.71.

Given his success, Old Wulfs’ re-signed their Sri Lankan star before injury prevented his UK return in 2023, he has now re-signed for their 2024 South Staffs campaign.
