Sandeep Pattnaik is a talented opening batter playing for Orissa across all formats in Indian domestic cricket.
A schoolboy prodigy, Pattnaik starred for Orissa through the age-groups, dominating the Vijay Merchant Trophy (U16s) competitions. In-fact, during his second season (2013/14) he finished inside the top ten run-scorers (432 runs at 72), in a tournament topped by none other than the ICC number one ranked ODI batter, namely Shubman Gill. Pattnaik would then average 57 in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy (U19s) the following season (2014/15), before averages of 55.50 and 62.33 in the 2015/16 Dhruve Pandove, and Vinoo Mankad Trophy Inter State Tournaments (U19s), respectively.
Courtesy of these age-group exploits, Pattnaik was picked to make his full Orissa debut in the Ranji Trophy in October 2016. He would go on to enjoy a productive maiden 2016/17 season, scoring 454 runs at 32.42 including a century (123). Over the next three seasons, opportunities were limited to 9 Ranji matches, but he continued to excel in the respective U23 competitions, namely the Inter-State, and CK Nayudu Trophy. He was also included in the India U19 Red team courtesy of his age-group and senior success.
Following the return to domestic cricket post COVID, Pattnaik has been involved with the Orissa squad but was made to wait till the 2023/24 season for regular Ranji Trophy outings. It's fair to say the run machine impressed hitting 2 centuries amongst 440 runs at 36.66, following his his List A and T20 run-sprees earlier in the season (211 runs at 70.33, and 187 runs at 31.16, respectively).
The talented opening batter, who is a more than useful off-spinner, is now looking to venture abroad in 2025, hopefully after yet another dominant domestic season.
