Rajesh Mohanty is an exceptional prospect playing for Odisha in Indian domestic cricket.

He broke into the Odisha Senior side a month after featuring for India Under-19s (Nov 2018). The seamer had already, earlier in the year, broken into Odisha’s white ball sides.

A player earmarked for success, after starring for India Under-19s, it wouldn’t take long for Mohanty to shine on the domestic circuit. In only his third Ranji Trohy match he would take figures of 11-86 against Assam.

The following year (Feb 2019), he would be picked by the Indian Board to play against England Lions, then a few months later (Sept 2019) he’d earn India Green selection and would feature in the Duldeep Trophy final, eventually losing out to a Priyank Panchal-skippered India Red.

After his barnstorming maiden Ranji season (40 wickets at 19.42), Mohanty would back up with a further 32 wickets at 21.31 to reaffirm is status as “one to watch”.

Unfortunately, COVID struck which stunted Mohanty’s momentum. When he eventually returned to red ball cricket (Feb 2022), he would play 3 Ranji Trophy matches but only bag 5 wickets.

Due to an ankle injury, Mohanty didn't feature for Odisha’s in Ranji cricket in 2022/23, albeit did feature strongly in their one day (Vijay Hazare Trophy) campaign (7 wickets at 25.57), before starring during the 2023/24 edition (11 wickets at 21).

Mohanty did return to the Ranji Trophy fold last summer, and boy did he make up for lost time bagging 31 wickets at 18.54 with 3 five wicket hauls, including his third 10 wicket match haul (5/64 & 5/61) against J&K.

Whilst known for his skills with the ball, Mohanty can lay claim to all-rounder status – especially in club cricket. Whilst he only has highest scores in the thirties across the three formats, it’s envisaged he’ll be more than capable batting in the middle order abroad in 2025.
