Swinton Moorside is delighted to announce the signing of Sri Lankan batter Ashan Fernando for their 2024 GMCL campaign.
Ashan Fernando is a serious prospect playing Moors Sports Club following his move from Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club this summer.
Fernando initially broke into first-class cricket for Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club following a glittering junior career. He was a stand-out for both his College (Maris Stella) and Province (Western-North Under-19s). The batting all-rounder excelled in the Singer U19 Competitions for his Maris Stella College, which he skippered.
A proven leader-of-men, Fernando has also captained both the Western Province Under-19s and also the Tamil Union Under-23 sides in recent years.
Following his stint with Tamil Union, he joined Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club for the 2021/22 season. He was a resounding success in List A cricket hitting 399 runs at 30.69 including his maiden domestic century (105).
A hugely talented cricketer, who by all reports is destined for “big things”. He comes recommended by none other than former Sri Lankan legend Rangana Herath.
Fernando is eager to experience a season abroad in 2024, and he’ll get that wish, having signed with Swinton Moorside for their Greater Manchester Cricket League campaign next summer.
