Akshay Wakhare is one of Indian domestic crickets leading performers. An off-spinner who has become a Vidarbha legend courtesy of his exploits across the three formats for neigh on two decades.
Since his Ranji Trophy (FC) debut in November 2016, the tall off-spinner has bagged well over 400 wickets – 317 of these in first-class with an average of 28.61. In recent seasons, Wakhare has featured amongst the leading wicket-takers in Ranji Trophy cricket.
Surprisingly, despite his domestic success, Wakhare hasn’t earned national selection, albeit was picked up by the Mumbai Indians several years ago, but was not used.
Often pigeon-holed as an out-and-out bowler, Wakhare considers himself a more than useful lower-middle order batter who boasts 3 half-centuries, and highest score of 72 in Ranji Trophy cricket.
A stand-out performer, Wakhare is at the peak of his game and is now seeking a return to Northern shores where his stint in 2022 was cut short through a shoulder injury that restricted him to only 8 games for Wigan (19 wickets at 18.63).
A high class bowler, more than useful batter, keen coach, and one of the nicest blokes on the circuit – Wakhare will be a massive signing for any UK club in 2025. Highly recommended.
