Shehan Fernando is an exceptional prospect who has represented the Sri Lankan Emerging Players, and is currently playing domestic cricket for Sri Lanka Army Sports Club.
A player of national potential, Fernando was picked for the Sri Lankan Emerging Players tour to Japan in May 2023. He was a stand-out performer with the bat, and now seems destined for higher honours.
Fernando, who also keeps wicket and bowls off-spin, has long been regarded as a serious prospect. He scored 274 runs at 30.44, including a hundred, in the Sri Lankan Emerging Three Day Tournament in 2021/22.
Thereafter, he was picked for the Army senior side in both List A (July 2022) and first-class cricket (Aug 2022), before making his T20 debut the following year (May 2023).
Fernando enjoyed a breakthrough opening season (2022/23), hitting 559 runs at 34.93 (FC), and 214 runs at 26.75 (List A), before backing up with a further 295 runs at 49.16 (FC) and 261 runs at 32.62 (List A).
He clearly has a penchant for big runs - to date, Fernando has scored 2 first-class centuries, namely 166 and 121.
Now an established Army player, the versatile cricketer is eager to play UK club cricket but for the 2025 season.
