With Sri Lanka’s Premier Tournament in full flow, we take a look at some of our client’s stand-out performances.

Major League Tournament – Tier A

Ramesh Mendis‘s record-breaking triple century (300* from 270 balls) for Moors SC against Negombo SC tops the list, closely followed by Lahiru Udara‘s outstanding 290* (from 303 balls) for Nondescripts vs Ragama. The latter followed-up with scores of 39 and 68* against Lankan and currently tops the Tier A run charts with 397 runs at 198.

Other centuries in Sri Lanka’s top tier competition have come from Colombo run machine Lasith Abeyratne, who racked up 153 (from 191 balls) against Sinhalese, before hitting scores of 84 and 25* against Burgher to sit in fourth on the charts behind Udara, Lahiru Milantha, and Mendis.

Tamil Union keeper/bat, Manoj Sarathchandra, has taken his fine form into the 2019/20 season, hitting 158 (160 balls) against the star-studded Chilaw Marians attack, whilst Bromley Common Pro, Gamindu Kanishka, kicked off his campaign with a 129* (181 balls) against Manoj’s Tamil side in the opening round.

Of note, Colombo opening batter, Ron Chandraguptha currently sits 5th in the run charts courtesy of 3 half-centuries in 4 innings, namely 70* (v Sinhalese), and scores of 95 and 77 (v Burgher RC), taking his tally to 243 runs at 81.

With the ball, it’s no surprise to see Dushan Vimukthi on song, with best figures of 5-20 amongst 11 wickets at 11.27, alongside 105 runs at 35. He currently sits 2nd on the wicket-charts after the opening two rounds. In 6th is Colombo skipper, Ashan Priyajan (9 wickets at 17.44), closely followed by Tharindu Rathnayake (8 wickets at 38), Lahiru Samarakoon (7 wickets at 32.28), and Nisala Tharaka (6 wickets at 16.33).

Major League Tournament – Tier B

Without a doubt, the star of Sri Lanka’s Tier B competition this summer has been legendary left-arm spinner, Gayan Sirisoma. After 5-156 against SLPACC, the Bloomfield tweaker captured a 12-wicket match haul (7-97 and 5-74) against Nugegoda SWC. Unsurprisingly, he tops the wicket charts and now boasts 632 first-class wickets at 19.61 with 55 five-wicket bags and 21 ten-wicket match hauls.

Hot on Gayan’s heels, with 16 wickets at 18.50, is new CricX recruit, SL Navy skipper Dilanka Auwardt. The left-arm spinner took a 12 wicket match haul of his own (7-133 and 5-110) against Police SC, then picked up 4-21 against Kandy. In the same match, Sri Lankan sensation, Savindu Peiris took 10 wickets (5-7 and 5-67) taking his first-class tally to 50 wickets at 16.20 with a handful of 5-wicket bags. Keep tabs on this lad, as he is a superstar for the future.

With the bat, the competition has been flooded with a raft of overseas players, to include former Pakistani domestic legend, Saeed Bin Nasir, who notched up a ton on his SLPACC debut (121) against Bloomfield. He is currently amongst the leading Tier B run-scorers with 153 runs at 76.50. However, fellow client Pramud Hettiwatte narrowly pips him with a string of scores taking his tally to 159 runs at 39.75.
