Vinay Choudhary is an exceptional left-arm spinner from Amritsar, playing for his State side Punjab in Ranji Trophy cricket.

The tweaker has made sporadic appearances for Punjab since his debut in March 2012. However, over the past two seasons, he has excelled, with season tallies of 15 wickets at 23.73 (2018/19), and 23 wickets at 14.14 (2019/20). Choudhary has now played 18 first-class matches, taken 67 wickets, with an impressive average of 28.25.

Last summer, the left-armer captured successive 6-wicket hauls against Andhra (6-46), and Bengal (6-54), on his way to 23 wickets at 14.14.

His recent success has come as no surprise to those in the know. After taking the wicket of Sourav Ganguly on his List A debut, during the Vijay Hazare Trophy Semi-Final (March 2012), he was surprisingly overlooked for Ranji Trophy selection, till his debut in December 2013 against Karnataka. But, a solitary wicket on debut, then 7 wickets at 35.14 the following season (2014/15), resulted in his demotion.

After a year's hiatus, Choudhary returned to the fray during the 2016/17 season, but only managed 11 wickets at 50.45. However, he hit his straps the following summer, taking 12 wickets at 27.25, and has subsequently become Punjab regular since.

Following his success in recent years, Choudhary is now eager to showcase his talent in UK league cricket. He is seeking his maiden opportunity in 2021, and is someone we expect to shine. Whilst known for his spin bowling, Choudhary is a competent batter in the lower-order, with the highest first-class score of 49.

A fantastic prospect for any UK club for the 2021 season.
