G Lalbiakvela is an experienced seamer who, after years of toil in local league cricket for Luangmual Cricket Club, was finally rewarded with provincial selection in September 2018.
He made the most of his opportunities, producing a number of useful performances, thus resulting in a Mizoram contract for the 2019/20 season. It was this summer that Lalbiakvela really started to excel.
In January 2020, he became the first Mizoram bowler to take a 10-wicket match haul (11-125). His figures of 8-56 in the first innings against Sikkim also become the best figures in the State’s history.
A week later, he continued to shine, taking his second 5-wicket bag, this time 5-55 against Nagaland. Lalbiakvela would go on to capture a season tally of 26 wickets at 32.69, to conclude a fantastic domestic summer.
Whilst Lalbiakvela earned plaudits for his bowling, at local league level, he is deemed a genuine all-rounder, often batting in the top six. Given limited opportunities in first-class cricket, he also boasts a best of 41, to evidence his ability at the professional level.
The veteran seam bowling all-rounder is now eager to follow in the footsteps of several Mizoram players, including skipper Taruwar Kohli, by playing UK club cricket in 2024.
