Brixham is delighted to announce the re-signing of Dhananjaya Lakshan for its 2021 Devon League campaign.
Star in the making
Lakshan is an exceptionally talented all-rounder who broke into professional cricket in Sri Lanka in May 2018, following an outstanding tenure for the Sri Lankan Under-19s.
He played 8 Youth ODI’s for his country, hitting 283 runs at 40.42 (plus 3 wickets at 21.66) with a best of 101* when chasing down Ireland’s 207 in Sri Lanka’s ICC Under-19 World Cup opener in January 2018 (held in New Zealand). He was Sri Lanka’s second-leading run-scorer at the World Cup (250 runs at 50), which also included 98 against the West Indies in their final WC outing.
Lakshan earned his Under-19 selection courtesy of his exploits whilst skippering Richmond College (in the Singer Under-19 Division 1 competitions) and playing for Southern Province Under-19s (in the SLC Super Under-19 Provincial Tournament). Lakshan’s highlight for the former was his brilliant outing against rivals St Thomas’ College in April 2018, when he captured 5-36 before scoring an unbeaten 130 off 138 balls (see highlights reel below).
Since his WC exploits, Lakshan has featured for Galle District (List-A), Kandy District (T20), and Colts Cricket Club (first-class), with the best performance of 141 for the latter against Sri Lankan Army.
Whilst in the infancy of his professional career, Lakshan has shown immense promise across all formats of cricket. He has 2 centuries, and boasts impressive numbers with the ball in both first-class and List A cricket.
Brixham return in 2021
The talented batter/seamer also shined during his maiden UK stint in 2019. Playing for Brixham in the Devon League, Lakshan struck 582 runs at 41.57 alongside 31 wickets at 16.32.
