Consett has replaced Shahidullah with fellow Afghan all-rounder Waqarullah Ishaq for their 2022 Northumberland and Tyneside Senior Cricket League campaign.
Shahidullah was forced to withdraw from the club due to upcoming international commitments, but Ishaq appears to be more than an able replacement.
A stand-out prospect
Ishaq is a serious prospect for Afghani cricket. The youngster is only in the infancy of his career but has already impressed, particularly in the first-class and one-day formats.
Originally a left-arm quick, he converted to bowling spin (chinamen) following the ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand (2018).
Since his conversion, he has enjoyed two dominant domestic seasons and boasts bowling averages of 31.47 (FC) and 26.42 (List A), respectively.
A genuine all-rounder
Ishaq is not only a high-class prospect with the ball, but a genuine all-rounder who boasts 2 first-class centuries, and 8 fifty-plus scores in domestic cricket.
In Afghanistan’s first-class competition – the Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-Day Tournament, he has scored 415 runs at 41.50 (2018/19), and 200 runs at 40 (2019/20) during the past two campaigns.
Ishaq signs for Consett
Ishaq is an exceptional talent who aspires to break into international cricket in future.
For now, though, he is set to play his maiden UK stint in 2022 having recently signed with Consett for their Northumberland and Tyneside Senior Cricket League campaign.
