Dorking is delighted to announce the re-signing of Sri Lankan Player/Coach, Maduranga Zoysa, for their 2024 season.

Zoysa is a high-class professional who has played 11 seasons abroad, including 2 in Australia, 9 in England, and 100 plus Sri Lankan domestic games.

In Sri Lanka, he moved to his current side, Police Sports Club, for the 2019/20 season, following 3 prolific seasons with Lankan Cricket Club (1,264 runs at 37.17). Zoysa has chalked up over 3,000 runs across the three formats, with the majority of these runs scored over the past 5 seasons.

In 2016/17, the diminutive right-hander made a spectacular return to domestic cricket, following a 4-year absence from the first-class game. He scored his 2 centuries en route to a season tally of 545 runs at 45.41. Zoysa has backed up his barnstorming summer with season tallies of 500 runs at 35.71 (2017/18), 194 runs at 32.33 (2018/19), and 356 runs at 25.42 (2019/20).

Since his return to first-class, Zoysa has struck 3 centuries, 11 fifties, and a highest score of 203 against Kalutara Town.

Zoysa, who also bowls useful leg-spin (11 wickets at 16.09 in List A cricket), has also enjoyed several notable seasons abroad, both in Australia and the UK.

He played two seasons in the Diamond Valley Cricket Association for Eltham Collegians (2008/09, 2010/11) before a handful of stellar summers in London (playing for Acton in the Middlesex League) and Birmingham (for Coventry and North Warwickshire).

During his initial 3 seasons in London (2013-15), he scored 2,207 runs at 40.87 (17x50s, 4x100s) in his 59 league matches. Then, two seasons for Coventry and North Warwickshire (2017-18) yielded 1,973 runs at 40.27 in both league and cup cricket for the club.

In 2019, Zoysa hit the headlines playing for Bracebridge Heath in the Lincolnshire ECB Premier League. He struck the highest individual score in Lincs Prem history when belting 264 from only 137 (27x4s, 14x6s) in the Play-Off Final against Bourne. Zoysa ended the season with 5 hundreds in total amongst 1,327 runs at 51.04. He was also the second-leading run-scorer in the Lincolnshire League.

Zoysa is an accomplished and proven performer, who comes highly recommended not only as a quality player but fantastic/enthusiastic coach, something he evidenced with recent stints with Spencer, and Dorking in the Surrey Championship. With the former, he was instrumental with both senior and junior coaching at arguably the biggest cricketing membership in the country.

Over the past two UK seasons, alongside coaching for Spencer, he has been a dominant professional for Dorking in the strong Surrey Championship. During his maiden season, unfortunately, a broken digit impacted his success on the field, but he still managed to rack up a brilliant ton en route to a season average of 27, but more importantly guided the next generation during his time with Dorking. On his return, he impressed finishing amongst the leading run-scorers in the division.

The Sri Lankan Player/Coach is an established professional who will be returning to Dorking for another stint next summer.
