Gidea Park and Romford are pleased to confirm the signing of Sri Lankan overseas, Lakshan Rodrigo, ahead of their 2024 Essex League campaign.
Rodrigo is a veteran Sri Lankan professional who has excelled at home, and abroad, for almost two decades.
In domestic cricket, he has featured for various sides dating back to his debut in 2006, most notably Colts, Sebastianites, Moratuwa, Lankan, Galle, Police, and most recently Panadura.
He has featured in 128 matches across the three formats, including 59 red ball matches where he has excelled. An impressive tally of 2,721 runs at 31.27 with 4 centuries, and 18 fifties. Then, 49 wickets at 26.12 with best bowling figures of 7-106 in first-class cricket with his off-spin.
Abroad, the all-rounder has enjoyed stints in both England (Bromyard, Fives & Heronians, Newcastle & Hartshill), and Australia (Williamstown CYMS, Keilor Park, Airport West St Christophers). His most impressive UK seasons came in 2009 for Bromyard (390 runs at 30 & 35 wickets at 25.31), and 2018 for Fives & Heronians (708 runs at 47.20 & 14 wickets at 35.86).
Last summer he featured in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League for Newcastle & Hartshill where he registered a further 400 runs at 33.33.
The accomplished Sri Lankan pro is now set to return in 2024 having signed with Gidea Park & Romford for their Essex League campaign.
