Hem Heath is delighted to announce the signing of Afghanistan spin bowling star Waqar Salamkheil for their 2022 North Staffs and South Cheshire League campaign.
Afghan sensation
Salamkheil is an exceptional spin bowling prospect for Afghanistan cricket.
Such is his talent; he was fast-tracked to the National side making his Test debut as an 18-year-old in March 2019. He took 4 wickets on debut against Ireland but surprisingly hasn’t featured since. Nevertheless, Salamkheil continues to dominate the domestic circuit and a national re-call seems certain in the future.
Waqar’s journey…
The left-arm chinaman bowler’s journey began with Band-e-Amir Region with whom he made his first-class (Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-Day Tournament) debut during the 2017/18 season. He bagged a 5-wicket haul on debut and ended the tournament as the joint-leading wicket-taker with 55 wickets.
The following season, he started to make his mark in white-ball cricket, taking poles aplenty in both Afghanistan (Kandahar Knights – Afghanistan Premier League), and Bangladesh (Comilla Victorians – Bangladesh Premier League).
In July 2019, he was selected to play for the Edinburgh Rocks in the inaugural edition of the Euro T20 Slam before the tournament was canceled. A few months later he was named in the Tshwane Spartans for South Africa’s 2019 Mzansi Super League.
He would go on to make his domestic List A debut for Band-e-Region in the 2019 Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One-Day Tournament then topped the wicket charts a year later in the 2020 Shpageeza Cricket League. In August 2021, he was picked up to play for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2021 Caribbean Premier League.
Set for Staffs season
Salamkheil really is a star for the future, but given he has a free schedule between April and September 2022, he is keen to mark his mark in UK league cricket having recently signed with Hem Heath for their 2022 North Staffs and South Cheshire League campaign.
