CricX are delgihted to announce Merivale Papanui Cricket Club’s double signing of Bertie & Sam Medhurst for the 2023/24 season.

Firstly, Bertie is a talented young leg-spin bowling all-rounder who, this summer, has broken into the Netherfield Cricket Club 1st XI, who compete in the Northern ECB Premier League.

In 2021, he was a key performer for his Club’s victorious Palace Shield League Trophy, and finished as the fourth leading wicket-taker with 39 poles at 16.03, alongside 153 runs at 30 with the bat.

Secondly, Sam Medhurst is an exciting all-rounder also playing for Netherfield (Northern Premier League) and Cumbria (NCCA) in England’s North West.

A genuine all-rounder, Medhurst opens the bowling and has played regular first-team cricket for Netherfield since the age of 15.

Over the past few seasons, Medhurst has starred with the ball at club level with 110 plus wickets with an average a tick over 12. These figures reflect his potential, having dominated arguably one of the strongest ECB Premier Leagues in the country.

To date, his cricketing highlight, alongside representative selection, would be his match-winning figures of 4-1-17-5 in the Moore & Smalley Palace Shield Competition T20 Playoff against Fulwood and Broughton Cricket Club.

We would like to wish Bertie, Sam and everyone at Merivale Papanui Cricket Club all the best for their upcoming campaign.
