Middlesbrough has re-signed one of Pakistan’s stand-out domestic spinners, namely Mohammad Asghar, for their 2024 NYSD campaign.

Since his first-class debut during the 2014/15 season, the slow left-armer has taken 177 wickets at 32.28 with 9 five-wicket bags.

He has been equally impressive in both white-ball formats with a further 118 wickets at 29.72 (List A), and 61 wickets at 24.65 (T20).

Courtesy of his domestic exploits, Asghar has earned international recognition playing for Pakistan Under-17s, Pakistan Shaheens, Pakistan A, and has been named in both the Pakistan Test (3) and ODI (1) squads.

The tweaker, who plays for the star-studded Sindh side, whose squad during the most recently Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (2021/22) featured no less than a dozen Pakistan internationals, including the likes of Asad Shafiq, Fawad Alam, Sarfraz Ahmed, and Sohail Khan, to name but a few, is a quality performer.

He has excelled in all formats with the ball and has also produced numerous notable innings with limited opportunities with bat-in-hand.

Asghar spent his maiden season abroad in 2023. Playing for Middlesbrough, he absolutely dominated the North Yorkshire and South Durham League. He topped the NYSD wicket charts and finished 2nd across all ECB Premier Leagues. In League and Cup cricket, Asghar bagged 75 wickets at 13.33, and scored 332 runs at 20.75 for good measure!

The Pakistani bowling all-rounder clearly starred in UK club cricket and given his success, is set to return for a second Middlesbrough stint in 2024.
