CricX are delighted to announce Waratah Mayfield Cricket Club’s signing of Lancashire County Cricket Club academy young-gun All-Rounder Charlie Barnard for the 2023/24 season.

Currently part of the Lancashire County Cricket Club academy, Charlie has represented the ‘Red Rose’ at senior 2nd XI level, as well as playing for Cheshire in the Minor Counties Championship. The 18-year-old currently plays his club cricket for Cheshire County Cricket League powerhouse, Alderley Edge, after joining from former club Hyde at the end of the 2022 season.

An impressive young left-arm spinner, Charlie is one of the hottest prospects in the County age-group pathway. Having already made his senior 2nd team debut for Lancashire back in 2022, he has continued to represent the County at the beginning of the UK 2023 summer.

Formerly of Hyde Cricket Club, Charlies breakthrough year came in 2021, where he took 29 wickets at an average of 17.93. He then went on to take 40 wickets at average of 21.15 in 2022, before securing his move to Alderley Edge for the current campaign. Also an impressive right-handed batter, Charlie often slots into the middle-order and amassed 718 runs in 44 games for Hyde. Averaging just shy of 30 with the bat in hand, Barnard has 5 senior fifties, and boasts a top score of 88 not out in senior cricket.

We would like to wish Charlie and everyone at Waratah Mayfield all the best for their upcoming campaign.
