Wembdon is pleased to finally confirm its overseas player for the 2024 season in the form of Sri Lankan all-rounder, Lohan de Zoysa.

De Zoysa is a hugely exciting prospect playing for Sebastianites Cricket and Athletic Club in Sri Lankan domestic cricket.

A genuine all-rounder, de Zoya is a left-handed batter who either opens or bats top order and also bowls slow left-arm spin. He plays alongside the likes of CricX stars Tharindu Ratnayake, Isitha Wijesundara, Thulina Dilshan, and Isivara Dissanayaka, and has impressed in recent years.

De Zoysa enjoyed a glittering schoolboy career playing for Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda, where he also represented the likes of Galle District, Southern Province, and Kandy Province at age-group level, and was a member of the Sri Lanka U17s Development, and U19 Youth teams.

In 2019/20, he was awarded as the U19 All Island “Best All-Rounder”, and post-COVID, made his List A debut for Moors Sports Club (2021/22).

However, it was his move to Sebastianites last summer (2022/23) that has made people sit up and take notice of this prodigious talent. After a strong List A campaign (195 runs at 24.37 and 15 wickets at 18), he would go on to score 500 plus runs (534 runs at 26.70) with a century (129) and 2 fifties, the majority from the top of the order, in first-class cricket. The talented all-rounder has then backed up with a further 181 runs at 45.25 in the most recent 2023/24 campaign.

It’s fair to say top-order batters who bowl left-arm spin are always in high demand from UK clubs, so it’s no wonder Wembdon has snapped up the talented Sri Lankan for their 2024 West of England Premier League campaign.
