After a run-filled Surrey Championship campaign, Woking & Horsell have re-signed their Sri Lankan star, Shehan Fernando for a second stint in 2024.

Fernando is an accomplished batter playing for Lankan Cricket Club in Sri Lankan domestic cricket.

Son of former domestic legend, and Sri Lankan selector Sajith, Shehan has played over 150 matches, across the three formats, since his 2012/13 debut season.

He is approaching 5,000 runs, averaging a tick below 30, albeit these numbers are on the rise given his exploits in recent years.

A former Sri Lankan Under-19 representative, Fernando played 13 matches for his country, including the 2012 ICC Under-19 World Cup in Australia, alongside the likes of national stars Werrakkody and Dickwella.

After stints with Colts (2012/13-15/16 – 1,179 runs at 30.23), Badureliya (2016/17 – 484 runs at 32.26), Ragama (2017/18-19/20 – 508 runs at 26.73), and Police Sports Club (2020), he is now playing with Lankan Cricket Club.

A diminutive, yet explosive batter, Fernando has been a stand-out performer in the UK, for Birmingham League clubs Harborne (2015 – 1,156 runs at 46.24) and Himley (2018 – 542 runs at 45.17), plus last season in Surrey for Woking & Horsell (2023 – 849 runs at 42.45) where he finished amongst the leading run-scorers in the Championship.

The Sri Lankan run machine, who also impressed for CricX against Italy in July 2023, is set to return to WHCC for a second stint next summer.
