Abdul Hadi Salarzai is an outrageous talent who seems destined for the big time. Despite his tender age, he has already featured in 31 domestic matches, including 13 first-class games where he has racked up 670 runs at 37.22.
Hadi was earmarked as a star for the future when earning his first-class debut as a 14-year-old back in February 2019. He struck 38 for on debut for Kunduz Province before striking his maiden first-class century - 115* (202 balls) v Khost, in his second. His side would go on to make the Mirwais Nika 3-Day Provincial final, in which Hadi would star, hitting 73 in the first innings to help Kunduz to the title. All this a few weeks prior to his 15th birthday!
Unfortunately, after three Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-Day fixtures (2019), COVID struck, thus halting his progress. Nevertheless, he returned to domestic cricket in October 2022, but not before he’d played a starring role in Afghanistan’s run to the semi-final in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean (Jan 2022).
The wicket-keeper batter only featured in three matches, but he did impress. Whilst he didn’t get a bat against Zimbabwe, he struck two scores of 37, first against Sri Lanka before an undefeated effort against England in which the Afghan’s fell 15 agonising runs short of a finals berth.
Hadi really is a star for the future and is now seeking an opportunity to showcase his skills in UK club cricket next summer. An exceptional talent, one who we feel has the potential to become a big name in future.
