Abdul Wasi is an exceptional talent who made his Test debut for Afghanistan against Zimbabwe in March 2021.
His inclusion was a result of two dominant seasons in the Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-Day Tournament. In 2018, he was Amo Region’s leading wicket-taker and finished second to Hamza Hotak on the wicket charts bagging 54 wickets at 22.87. His exploits were rewarded with the “Player of the Series” award.
The following year (2019), Wasi continued to shine taking 26 wickets at 37.46 to finish fifth on the first-class charts. The leg-spinner also showed his ability with the bat hitting 455 runs at 50.55 with 4 half-centuries and a highest score of 87.
Having previously represented Afghanistan through the age groups, Wasi was selected for the Emerging Players team and played in the Asia Cup in Bangladesh in November 2019. After a year’s absence due to COVID, Wasi was picked for the national side and made his debut against Zimbabwe in March 2021.
An all-rounder of considerable promise, Wasi is now based in Canada (Toronto) and is seeking opportunities from 2024 onwards.
