Avinash Yadav is an exceptional left-arm spinner playing for Mizoram following a long and decorated career with Railways in the top tier of India’s Ranji Trophy first-class competition.
In recent seasons, Yadav has been one of domestic cricket's stand-out performers. After 38 first-class matches, he has 117 wickets at 29.83 alongside 923 runs at 17.41.
Following several useful Ranji campaigns (12 wickets at 24.66 and 11 wickets at 27.54 in 2016/17 and 2017/18 respectively), Yadav starred in 2018/19 topping the “Group A” wicket-charts with 41 wickets at 26.70 with 3 five-wicket hauls. He finished inside the top ten wicket-takers across all 4 divisions of Ranji Trophy cricket that summer.
Surprisingly Yadav had a quiet 2019/20 campaign then COVID struck putting pay to Ranji Trophy cricket in 2020/21, and most of the 2021/22 season. Nevertheless, he returned with a bang throughout the 2022/23 season taking 33 wickets at 20.15 including 4 five-wicket bags and a 10-wicket match haul. He also struck his maiden first-class century (125) and a fourth Ranji fifty amongst 315 runs at 31.50.
The veteran left-arm spinner has excelled in recent years, as he did as a schoolboy prior to breaking into professional cricket. Yadav featured for India Under-19 alongside the likes of Piyush Chawla, Irfan Pathan, and Robin Uthappa back in 2003 to 2005. Yadav broke into domestic cricket in 2012/13 and has been a loyal servant of Railways cricket since.
After his prolific 2018/19 Ranji Trophy season, Yadav signed his first overseas contract with Liverpool League club Wigan. Unsurprisingly, Yadav impressed, taking an incredible 62 wickets at 6.60 with 6 five-wicket hauls to finish amongst the leading wicket-takers and guide his side to promotion to the ECB Premier Division in 2020.
For 2023, Yadav made his long-awaited return to the Liverpool League. Playing for Lytham, he absolutely excelled (as you'd expect) taking 64 wickets at 14.20 alongside 261 runs at 21.75. However, last summer he returned to Wigan for a second stint, and was yet again a star performer in the Liverpool League, this time bagging 74 wickets at 12.93.
The Indian superstar is, without doubt, one of the best left-arm spin bowling professionals on the market and he is now eager to secure another stint in 2025.
