Gareth Severin is a dynamic wicket-keeper batter currently in his second professional contract with the Wellington Firebirds for the 2024/25 domestic season. A prolific run-scorer at both Premier and Provincial A levels, Severin earned his Wellington debut in March 2023—and he made an immediate impact.

In his maiden innings, he struck 80 against Auckland before delivering a record-breaking 196 against Northern Districts, nearly chasing down 391 single-handedly. That remarkable knock came under immense pressure at 19-2 against an attack featuring Colin de Grandhomme and Mitch Santner.

Severin carried that momentum into the 2023/24 season, amassing 657 runs at 46.92, including three centuries (143 vs Auckland, 105 vs Otago) and five fifties. Heading into the second half of the 2024/25 season, he averages in the high 30s with a growing list of match-winning contributions.

His success isn’t limited to New Zealand. Over the past three years, he has dominated in England for Kent League club Hayes, racking up 3,093 runs at 40.70, with five hundreds and 21 fifties. His standout performance came in a stunning 146* (122) while chasing 228 in just 44 overs. He has also impressed for Kent 2nd XI.

Born in South Africa, Severin was educated at Wellington College (NZ) and attended the New Zealand Institute of Sport. A standout performer in Wellington’s age-group system, he topped the NZ U19 Tournament and was selected for a New Zealand Development team. He has since represented Wellington A and shone in the Premier club scene with Johnsonville.

With his aggressive stroke play and hunger for runs, Severin is looking to dominate another domestic season before exploring a UK return in 2025. Holding an Ancestry Visa, he is actively seeking County cricket opportunities alongside a club stint next summer.
