Matthew Campbell is an exciting talent who comes from highly impressive stock.
A quality all rounder, Matthew bats in the top order, bowls off spin and is an emerging talent on the global cricket scene. No surprise when you consider his family's rich history in Zimbabwean Cricket. His father, Alistair is a former Zimbabwe captain and is widely regarded as a legend in his homeland. His brother, Jonathan is currently making waves in first class cricket and his godfather is non other than the great Andy Flower. Some close circle!
Both Matthew and Jonathan are tipped by many observers to be the next brothers to play together for Zimbabwe, following in the illustrious footsteps of Andy and Grant Flower. Matthew has gone from strength to strength in the last few years. He has dominated at National Premier League level, including a brutal 50 off just 19 balls as his Rangers team went on to win the NPL T20 blast. He was also selected in the 2023 Zim Afro T10 competition, where he played alongside international cricketers and gained valuable experience.
He has now made the move to first class cricket, and to nobody's surprise he has taken to it like a duck to water. Opening the batting for Southern Rocks, the talented left hander made half centuries in both innings (63 & 73) in the draw against Mashonaland Eagles, showing he is more than capable of performing at the top level. We envisage Matthew will continue to impress for the rest of the first class season and is then targeting a season in Europe as an overseas professional.
A player who is destined for the top of the game, we recommend Matthew highly for the 2025 summer.
There are no overseas stats available for this player.
