Mayank Mishra is a talented left-arm spin bowling all-rounder who finally broke into professional cricket in 2018/19, following years of toil in club and office cricket.
Playing for Uttarakhand, alongside IPL legend Rajat Bhatia, Mishra took 18 wickets at 22.55 with best match bowling figures of 8-80 in 5 Ranji Trophy (first-class) matches. He also averaged 20.75 from the middle order, including a highest score of 58. The all-rounder was equally effective in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (List A) and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20) where he averaged 20.33 and 26 with the ball, respectively.
Mishra’s domestic selection was a long time coming, given his exploits in Premier Club, Inter-District (both in the Uttarakhand League), and Office League (Jharkhand) cricket.
Having excelled in all three formats for Uttarakhand in 2018/19, the all-rounder was keen to back up his maiden season with another strong summer in 2019/20.
Mishra did just that. After a strong T20 (7 wickets at 19.85, including a hatrick) campaign, the tweaker has reinforced his ability, taking a further 18 wickets at 23.50 with 5 wicket hauls against Jharkhand (5-100), and Services (6-48), alongside a highest score of 52 against Assam.
Post COVID, Mishra was at it again, bagging 16 wickets at 10.37 (2021/22), and 35 wickets at 21.74 (2022/23) with successive 10-wicket match hauls.
The Uttarakhand star now boasts very impressive domestic figures - particularly in red-ball cricket with batting and bowling averages of 13.46 and 22.01, respectively.
Over the past three seasons, Mishra has also enjoyed plenty of UK club success, initially for Philadelphia (2021 - North East Premier League), followed by a promotion-winning stint with Driffield Town (2022 - Yorkshire Premier League North), and last summer with Yorkshire Premier outfit Cleethorpes. He excelled, finishing amongst the leading league wicket-takers in each with 43 wickets at 13.53 (2021), 60 wickets at 12.90 (2022), and 48 wickets at 17.75 (2023).
Mishra is a class act - one of the best left-arm spinners on the market and is set to return to Cleethorpes for a second stint in 2024.
