Ottneil Baartman is a tall, strapping pace bowler who continues to press for South African honours having been selected back in January 2021.
Unfortunately, despite earning national selection for the Pakistan Test tour, he had to withdraw through injury. A frustrating result for the big man, who had excelled in domestic cricket to justify selection.
Nevertheless, the towering South African continues to shine for the Dolphins in domestic cricket, and aspires to earn another national call in the not too distant future.
Rolling back the years, such was Baartman's promise, he broke into the Knights Franchise set-up in September 2017, having only played 8 first-class matches previously. He went on to feature in 10 first-class matches for the Knights taking 29 wickets at 29.13, before moves to the Dolphins and KwaZulu-Natal Coastal (2020/21-2022/23).
The powerful strike-bowler can lay claim to best match figures of 14-95 (7-27 and 7-68) recorded during his fifth first-class game for SWD. He went on to take 27 wickets at 20.62 during what was his breakthrough season in 2016/17. He has since gone on to take a total of 102 wickets at 26.35 in 36 first-class games, alongside exceptional bowling averages of 22.43 and 17.39 in List A and T20, respectively.
Baartman is keen to explore UK opportunities in 2024, after pulling out of a deal in 2022 due to COVID. A brilliant overseas recruit for any high-level club next season.
