Rajat Dey is a unique and highly capable cricketer who has played nearly 100 matches for Tripura across all formats in Indian domestic cricket.
Since his T20 debut during the 2015/16 season, Dey has racked up over 2,000 runs and is fair share of wickets bowling a combination of spin and seam.
Dey is a unique cricketer, not only a fine batter but an ambidextrous bowler who bowls right-arm seamers and left-arm orthodox spin. He has taken wickets with both arms in domestic cricket.
Dey’s journey started with the State in 2015/16, averaging 30 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20). He would then impress during his debut Ranji season (2016/17) hitting 368 runs at 28.30). Dey would make his Vijay Hazare Trophy (List A) the following summer (149 runs at 24.83) but then struggled to maintain his spot until the return to cricket post-COVID.
During the 2022/23 season, Dey became a Tripura regular – striking a career-best 89 during the Ranji season and averaging mid-20s in both white-ball formats. He continued to shine, particularly in white ball cricket in 2023/24, but has since struggled to regain his spot in the Tripura side this summer but remains in the mix.
The talented all-rounder headed abroad in 2024 and enjoyed a fruitful spell with Cowdrey in the Kent League hitting 710 runs at 50.71 alongside 32 wickets at 13.88.
Given his success, the now level 2 qualified all-rounder, is set to embark on a new adventure with Lightcliffe CC of the Bradford League in 2025.
