Ranuda Somarathne is a highly talented and ambitious young man, who has the ability to go all the way to the very top of the game. He is rated as one of Sri Lanka's brightest talents and has the attitude and determination to match his ability.

He is a high quality batter who has represented Sri Lanka Under 19s, Sri Lanka Development XI, Dambulla (National Super League), and is currently playing for Sinhalese Sports Club, with the ultimate goal of representing the Sri Lankan national team.

In 2021, Ranuda made his debut for Sri Lanka U19 on the England tour, where he scored a half-century in his very first match. Later that year, he represented Sri Lanka U19 in the Asia Cup held in Dubai, contributing to the team's journey as runners-up.
In the 2022 U19 World Cup in the West Indies, Ranuda impressed with an unbeaten 57 against South Africa. His performance continued on the 2022 England tour, where he was instrumental in the first Test match, scoring a half-century in the first innings and an unbeaten 120 in the second to secure a 1-0 series win. During the one-day series on the same tour, he scored over 80+ runs in two games.

Later in 2022, Ranuda made his first-class debut representing Dambulla in the National Super League. Following the NSL, he joined the Sinhalese Sports Club, where he made his T20 debut and later debuted in List A cricket. Since then, he has played in 8 three-day and 1 four-day first-class matches, 9 T20 matches, and 15 List A matches. Most recently, in 2024, he represented the Sri Lanka Development XI on the Uganda tour, continuing to establish himself as a promising talent in Sri Lankan cricket.

Despite his main skill being with the bat, Ranuda is a highly competent off spinner who is confident of filling an all rounder slot overseas. like many young players in Sri Lanka, there are so many spin bowling options on the island, it is sometimes difficult to get an opportunity with ball in hand.

Ranuda is now targeting a season overseas as a club professional to continue his development and enhance his all round game. For any club seeking a highly driven, talented young all round cricketer with an excellent attitude, we recommend Ranuda highly.
