Shahidullah Kamal is an exceptional prospect who made his Test debut for Afghanistan in March 2021 during their 6-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi.
Kamal only bowled the 5 overs in the match dominated by a 307-run partnership between Hashmatullah Shahidi and skipper Asghar Afghan and 11 wickets from spin sensation Rashid Khan.
However, his inclusion was justification for his impressive domestic performances since his debut 2017/18 season.
Kamal, who is a destructive batter and slow left-arm spinner, shot to prominence during his maiden first-class season hitting 1,032 runs at 57.33 (2017/18). Since then, his performances have been outstanding with best season figures of 610 runs at 87.14 (2018/19), and 274 runs at 68.50 (2021/22).
The run machine has now racked up well over 2,000 first-class runs with an average in the mid-50s with 8 centuries. He has also enjoyed success in both white-ball formats, averaging 41, and 33, in List A and T20 respectively.
Not only a punishing batter but Kamal is also deemed a genuine all-rounder, with his left-arm spin accounting for 67 domestic wickets to date across the three formats.
A serious player, Kamal is a star for the future and will be one to watch. Subject to national commitments he is open to playing abroad in 2025 onwards.
(Note: Kamal will need a GBE prior to 14 Nov 2024 for his International Sportsperson Visa)
